How Pro YouTubers Deal With Low CTR

I’ve asked some of the best creators on YouTube, “How do you write such great titles?”

And they’ve all said the same thing: “I just model what works.”

So this email will show you 5 videos worth modeling to help you write great titles and save time.

Perfect Posture

Hook score: +357

Why this works:

Desire – This creator’s audience wants perfect posture.

Time Frame – The time frame of 10 minutes per day makes correcting your posture feel more doable and achievable.

How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about the perfect routine that can help them achieve a goal in 10 minutes a day.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • PERFECT Writing Routine To Get Rid Of Writer’s Block Forever (10 Min/Day)

HelloScam

Title: I ordered HelloFresh to see if it was a scam.

Formula: I ordered (Product) to see if it was a scam.

Hook score: +446

Why this works:

Curiosity – This title hints that HelloFresh might be a scam, but it’s a cliffhanger that makes you wonder what the final verdict is.

Negativity – Talking about products being a scam does a great job at grabbing the audience’s attention.

How you can use this hook: Tell your audience how you got a product to see if it was a scam.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • I ordered a Tesla to see if it was a scam.
  • I tried Wealthfront to see if it was a scam.

Later Loneliness

Title: How Stoics Deal With Loneliness

Formula: How (Authority Group) Deal With (Problem)

 Hook score: +738

Why this works:

Authority – This creator’s audience wants to be like the Stoics.

Negativity – This is all about a problem people deal with.

How you can use this hook: Tell your audience how the people they want to be like deal with problems.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • How The Top 1% Deal With Recessions
  • How Professional Photographers Deal With Poor Lighting

Good For Nothing

Title: The Sharpest Object In The World Can’t Cut Anything

Formula: The (Most Extreme) Object In The World Can’t (Assumed Action)

Hook score: +992

Why this works:

Curiosity – This title builds curiosity two ways: 1) It’s about something extreme and unique: the sharpest object in the world. 2) It’s counterintuitive. You would assume the sharpest object in the world can cut anything.

How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about an extreme object that doesn’t do what everyone would assume it’s great at.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • The Richest Man In The World Can’t Buy Anything
  • You Can’t Hear The Loudest Speaker In The World

EV Envy

polestar thumbnail

Title: Polestar 3 first look: Possibly the best looking new EV for 2023

Formula: (New Product) first look: Possibly the best (Trait) new (Product) for (Upcoming Year)

Hook score: +1011

Why this works:

Timeliness – “First Look” and “new EV” lets the audience know this is about something new coming in the future.

Desire – This creator’s audience likes new cars.

Curiosity – By saying this is the “best looking” it builds curiosity because it’s unique. And that curiosity is enhanced by only showing a part of the car in the thumbnail.

How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about the first look of a new product that’s the best at something.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • Sony ZV first look: Possibly the best new camera for 2023
  • Traeger Timberline XL first look: Possibly the best high-end grill for 2023

Flop of the Week

rocketry thumbnail

Title: The Fraught History of Re-Usable Rocketry

Hook score: -79

Why this flopped: I like to think I’m a pretty smart guy, but when I read this title, I had to read it twice.

Fraught means… not good, right?

And re-usable rocketry… that’s what Elon is doing, right?

Titles need to be understood instantly because people are mindlessly scrolling YouTube.

I think it might’ve been better written as: “The Dark History of Re-Usable Rockets.”
