12 Rules To Blow Up On YouTube

I’ve asked some of the best creators on YouTube, “How do you write such great titles?”

And they’ve all said the same thing: “I just model what works.”

So this email will show you 5 videos worth modeling to help you write great titles and save time.

Desire – This audience would love rules for a cleaner home.

Title: 24 HOURS IN THE CHEAPEST ALL-INCLUSIVE RESORT IN MEXICO (Playa Del Carmen)

Formula: [Time Frame] In The [Extreme] [Place] ([Specific Place])

Hook score: +393

Why this works:

Time Frame – People love time frames because they make a video feel more tangible — you know exactly what to expect and that makes you more excited to click on it.

Extreme – The “Cheapest All-Inclusive” is much cooler than “A Cheap All-Inclusive”

Desire – Even though it’s the cheapest one, this video is still about an all-inclusive resort, which is something this audience loves.

How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about how you spent a specific time frame in an extreme place.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • 12 Hours In The Cheapest Gym In America
  • 30 Days With The Cheapest Smart Phone

Algorithm Adventure

Title: How The YouTube Algorithm Works in 2022

Formula: How (Powerful Entity) Works In 2022

Hook score: +555

Why this works:

Timeliness – Since the algorithm is always changing, adding “2022” at the end of the title lets the audience know this is relevant right now.

Desire – YouTubers are obsessed with the algorithm.

How you can use this hook: Tell your audience how something they’re obsessed with is working right now.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • How Mortgage Interest Rates Will Change In 2022

Title: FIX LOWER BACK. BEFORE IT’S IRREVERSIBLE

Formula: Fix (Problem). Before It’s Irreversible

Hook score: +1729

Why this works:

Negativity – This title is all about a pain point and a warning to go along with it.

How you can use this hook: Tell your audience how to fix a pain point before it’s irreversible.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • Fix Your Running Form. Before You Can’t Run Anymore
  • Fix Your Lawn. Before It’s Irreversible

Flop of the Week

angel investing thumbnail

Title: Angel Investing, Explained Easy!

Hook score: -70

Why this flopped: Some topics just have a smaller audience. Here’s a screenshot from Google Trends of Angel Investing vs. Dividend Investing (the topic of a video that crushed it for this channel recently):

angel investing vs dividend investing

Knowing that angel investing isn’t exactly the most popular topic, this creator could’ve spice up the title with some curiosity or negativity.

Something like:

  • The Best Investment Strategy Nobody Talks About
  • I Wish I Knew About This Investment Strategy 5 Years Ago

Alright, that wraps up this week’s Creator Hooks!
