I’ve asked some of the best creators on YouTube, “How do you write such great titles?”
And they’ve all said the same thing: “I just model what works.”
So this email will show you 5 videos worth modeling to help you write great titles and save time.

Dark Spot Delete
Title: How to remove dark spots, dark patches and hyperpigmentation on your face and body!
Formula: How to remove (Unwanted Trait or Possession)
Hook score: +314
Why this works:
Negativity – This video is all about removing unwanted traits. Pressing on these pain points gets the audience’s attention and makes them click.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience how they can remove their pain points or unwanted traits.
Examples of this hook in action:
- How to remove brown spots from your lawn
- How to remove the awkwardness on a first date
Money Meltdown
Title: What a Recession Could Mean For The Commercial Real Estate Market
Formula: What a (Negative Event) Could Mean For The (Industry)
Hook score: +380
Why this works:
Curiosity – This title builds curiosity two ways. First, it opens a loop by not answering what a recession could mean in the title, so you have to click and find out. And second, it’s talking about the future. The future is obviously unknown, so it builds curiosity.
Negativity – Negative events, like recessions, get a lot of attention and clicks.
Timeliness – Everybody is talking about a recession right now and this creator uses that to his advantage by riding that wave.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about what a big, negative event could mean for them.
Examples of this hook in action:
- What a Recession Could Mean For Teachers
- What Global Warming Could Mean For Coastal Cities
Study Secrets
Title: How I Routinely Study With a Full Time Job when I’m TIRED
Formula: How I (Activity) With (Constraints)
Hook score: +397
Why this works:
Constraint – Studying with the constraint of a full time job makes this video way more interesting. It introduces conflict, and conflict makes for a good story. Plus, many people in this creator’s audience are struggling with trying to study with a full time job, so they relate to this title.
Refute objection – “With a full time job” and “when I’m tired” are both objections that people may have when they’re trying to study. When you get rid of people’s excuses in your title, they have no excuse to not watch your video.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience how you do something that they want to do, even with all of their potential excuses.
Examples of this hook in action:
- How I Consistently Work Out With a Full Time Job & Kids
- How He Invests In His 401K Every Month With a Low-Paying Job
Holey Cart
Title: Why Shopping Carts Have Holes + 15 Things You Never Thought About
Formula: Why (Common Item) Has (Trait) + 15 Things You Never Thought About
Hook score: +642
Why this works:
Curiosity – This title makes you feel like you’re getting in on a weird secret, and the “things you never thought about” enhances that feeling.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about why something is the way it is in your industry.
Examples of this hook in action:
- Why Tomatoes Don’t Grow In The Fall + 15 Things you Never Thought About
- Why Bitcoin Took So Long To Become Mainstream
Mandalorian Jesus
Title: How a Church Uses Mandalorian Tech | RED KOMODO and Unreal Engine Setup
Formula: How (Entity) uses (Cool, Futuristic, and/or Trending Tool) | (Keywords)
Hook score: +772
Why this works:
Curiosity – The contrast between “church” (which feels non-techie) and “Mandalorian tech” (which feels futuristic) builds a ton of curiosity.
Authority – “Mandalorian Tech” is an amazing way to describe tech. And it’s authoritative because, well, we’re talking about The Mandalorian.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about how a person or organization uses a new tool, and relate that tool to something futuristic or an expert (or both).
Examples of this hook in action:
- How a Real Estate Company uses Wakanda Tech | Due Diligence Secrets
- How a Faceless Channel used AI To Get 1,000,000 Subscribers
Flop of the Week
Title: A Productive Day in the Life at Cajun Koi Academy (Kuma
Hook score: -89
Why this flopped: This title feels too self-promotional.
It feels like it’s all about the creator and his academy, rather than about the audience.
I’m sure it made lots of money, but it might’ve been better framed as something like, “A Productive Day in the Life of a Study Expert” (his channel is about studying).
Framing the video this way makes it feel like he’s aligning with the audience rather than promoting his academy.
Alright, that wraps up this week’s Creator Hooks!
