5 Small Changes To Improve Your YouTube Channel Forever

I’ve asked some of the best creators on YouTube, “How do you write such great titles?”

And they’ve all said the same thing: “I just model what works.”

So this email will show you 5 videos worth modeling to help you write great titles and save time.

Repulsive Rides

Title: I Shouldn’t Be Allowed To Show You This…

Formula: I Shouldn’t Be Allowed To (Activity)…

Hook score: +485

Why this works:

I normally don’t like this vague title style, but the thumbnail gives you enough context that the title doesn’t need to spell out what the video is about again.

The curiosity (this title promises to reveal a secret) and negativity (the disgusting car and rebellious vibe of the title) combine for successful packaging.

How you can use this hook: Hint that you’re letting your audience in on some drama.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • I Shouldn’t Be Allowed To Say This Out Loud…
  • They Shouldn’t Serve This At Restaurants…

Note: these hypothetical titles would obviously be paired with a fantastic (and context-providing) thumbnail.

Average Joe

regular guy vs seal thumbnail

Title: Can A Regular Guy Shoot Better Than A Navy SEAL?

Formula: Can A (Average Person) (Activity) Better Than A (Elite Person)?

Hook score: +564

Why this works:

Curiosity – This title builds curiosity two ways: 1) There’s contrast between “regular guy” and “Navy SEAL”. 2) It asks a question.

How you can use this hook: Ask if a regular person can do something better than a professional.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • Can A Regular Guy Shoot Better Than Steph Curry?
  • Can A Regular Guy Drive Faster Than An F1 Driver?

Price Is Right

Title: Guess The Price of These New Construction Homes In Tampa! Which Would You Choose??

Formula: Guess The Price of These (Objects)! Which Would You Choose??

Hook score: +596

Why this works:

Curiosity – This builds curiosity by asking a question and feels kinda like trivia.

Desire – This creator’s audience is into new homes in Tampa.

How you can use this hook: Ask your audience to guess the price (or another attribute) of something.

Examples of this hook in action:

  • Guess The Price of These New Offshore Boats! Which Would You Choose??
  • Guess The Price of These Vintage Watches! Which Would You Choose??

Flop of the Week

worst idea video

Title: This Might Be The WORST Idea I’ve Ever Had…

Hook score: -82

Why this flopped: This title doesn’t give enough context for you to be interested in the video unless you’re a big fan of the creator.

If you’re going to use a vague title (like this channel did earlier in this email with the dirty car), the thumbnail needs to make it abundantly clear what your video is about.

This video has a vague title and a vague thumbnail, which is a recipe to land in the flop of the week.

It’s hard for your audience to be interested in a video where they don’t know what it’s about.

Alright, that wraps up this week’s Creator Hooks!
