Why this works:
Curiosity – There’s contrast between “noob” and “max level” which builds curiosity (how did he do that?) and starts a story. Plus, “in One Video” adds a constraint which makes this even more interesting.
Beginners – Most gamers are noobs (everybody starts as a noob, but not everybody advances), so this attracts the biggest part of the audience.
How you can use this hook: Show your audience how you went from noob to expert in something.

Why this works:
List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about) and they add some curiosity.
Urgency – This title hints that there’s some urgency to retire, which makes you want to click more.
Desire – This creator’s audience wants to retire as soon as they can.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience the 5 reasons to do something they already want to do as soon as they can.

Why this works:
List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about) and they add some curiosity.
Negativity – This video talks about aging, which is a big problem this target audience is facing.
Specific Audience – By calling out people over 50, this attracts a specific (but huge) audience, which makes them more likely to click.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about the products that can help solve a problem for a specific audience.

Flop of the Week
Title: I got monetized in 12 weeks – HERE’S HOW I DID IT
Hook score: -91
Why this flopped: This title is good because it’s about achieving a big goal in a specific time frame, right?
Well, maybe if this was a YouTube education channel.
But it’s not.
She talks about selling on etsy, digital products, and side hustles. Her audience probably doesn’t know or care what “I got monetized” means.
This video probably would’ve done better if she spoke in terms her audience understands.
Maybe something like, “I Made $X,XXX On YouTube in 12 weeks – HERE’S HOW I DID IT.”
