I’ve asked some of the best creators on YouTube, “How do you write such great titles?”
And they’ve all said the same thing: “I just model what works.”
So this email will show you 5 videos worth modeling to help you write great titles and save time.
Btw, if you want to save more time and use a title generator that uses all the titles ever featured in Creator Hooks, check out Creator Hooks Pro.
Sewing Secrets
Title: Did you know SEWING MACHINE can do THIS? 5 sewing machine secrets!
Framework: Did you know (Tool) can do THIS? 5 (Tool) secrets!
Hook score: +426
Why this works:
Curiosity – This builds curiosity three ways:
- It asks a question
- It opens a loop because it makes you want to know what “THIS” is
- It’s about a list of secrets
List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about) and they add some curiosity.
How you can use this framework: Ask if your audience knows their favorite tool can do “THIS”, and share five secrets with them.
Examples of this framework in action:
- Did you know ConvertKit can do THIS? 5 ConvertKit secrets!
- Did you know you can do THIS in Minecraft? 5 Minecraft secrets!
Decoy Dunker
Framework: 10 (Entities) vs 1 Fake
Hook score: +503
Why this works:
Curiosity – This builds curiosity in two ways:
- “Fake” adds intrigue here
- People love challenge videos because they make you want to know what will happen
There’s also curiosity throughout the video (which made me watch until the end) because you see the contestants, and you know that 10 of them can dunk, but there were several short people. That held my attention the whole time because I wanted to see the short people dunk.
How you can use this framework: Pit ten legit people against a fake person.
Examples of this framework in action:
- 10 Native Spanish Speakers vs 1 Fake
- 10 Real Artists vs 1 Fake

That Doesn’t Look Good
Title: Cybertruck Crash Test is HORRIFYING, Here’s Why
Framework: (Entity or Event) is HORRIFYING, Here’s Why
Hook score: +1,836
Why this works:
Negativity – This leverages fear to get people to click.
Timeliness – This video was published right around the time the Cybertruck was made available to the public.
Curiosity – “Here’s Why” opens a loop and makes you want to know what happened.
How you can use this framework: Tell your audience that something trending is horrifying.
Examples of this framework in action:
- This Change in the Presidential Election is HORRIFYING, Here’s Why
- The Future of America is HORRIFYING, Here’s Why
Property Perils
Title: (10 MISTAKES) When Buying Land…
Framework: (10 MISTAKES) When [Activity]…
Hook score: +10,026
Why this works:
Negativity – This leverages fear with “mistakes” in the title and the warning in the thumbnail.
List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about) and they add some curiosity.
Curiosity – The thumbnail text opens a loop and makes you want to know what you should never buy.
How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about the ten mistakes they’re likely to make, but in the thumbnail share a warning and open a loop.
Examples of this framework in action:
- (10 MISTAKES) When Starting a YouTube Channel…
- (10 MISTAKES) When Camping in the Winter…
The Kitchen Sink Title
Title: How to grow bitter melon in tires for families without gardens, fertilizer from beer
Framework: How to (Achieve Goal) (Unexpected Way) for (Audience with Constraint), (Counterintuitive Method)
Hook score: +24,358
Why this works:
Desire – This creator’s audience wants to learn how to grow bitter melon.
Curiosity – “fertilizer from beer” and growing melon “in tires” are both weird and counterintuitive, so they make you want to see what’s going on there.
Specific Audience & Refute Objection – Calling out “families without gardens” does two things:
- It makes people without gardens more likely to click because they feel like this video was made specifically for them.
- It gets rid of the “I can’t do this because I don’t have a garden” excuse, which also makes people more likely to click.
How you can use this framework: Tell a specific group of people how they can achieve a goal using weird tools.
Examples of this framework in action:
- How to get shredded at home without equipment, eating dessert every night
- How to find your dream job for beginner engineers, no interview necessary
Flop of the Week
Title: Match The Race To The Person
Hook score: -75
Why this flopped: The obvious reason this flopped is that every video on this channel is about sports except for this one.
It seemed like they tried to go broader here and it didn’t work that well.
However, there are still a few other things that worked against this idea:
- There’s less curiosity for the viewer in the thumbnail. It’s obvious which one is white, but with the fake dunker video above, the audience doesn’t know which is fake.
- There’s not much drama or intrigue in the title. They could’ve used the same framework above and went with an idea like “10 White People vs 1 Fake”.
Alright, that wraps up this week’s Creator Hooks!
