I’ve asked some of the best creators on YouTube, “How do you write such great titles?”
And they’ve all said the same thing: “I just model what works.”
So this email will show you 5 videos worth modeling to help you write great titles and save time.

Curious Cube
Title: The Cube: Saudi Arabia’s Next Megaproject
Formula: (Name): (Entity)’s Next (Impressive Object)
Hook score: +522
Why this works:
Epic – “Megaproject” and “Impossible Cube” along with the image of the cube in the thumbnail make this video feel epic.
Future – This is about Saudi Arabia’s next megaproject, and talking about the future builds curiosity because the future is obviously unknown.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about something epic coming in the future.
Examples of this hook in action:
- The Vaporfly: Nike’s Next Super Shoe
- Madame Web: Marvel’s Next Mega Franchise
Telling Triggers
Title: These Triggers Are “The Tell” That You were Neglected and Ostracized As a Child
Formula: These Triggers Are “The Tell” That You Were (Negative Action)
Hook score: +634
Why this works:
Curiosity – This title opens a loop because it doesn’t specify what “these triggers” are, so you have to click and find out.
Negativity – This picks at a very intense pain point for many people, which makes them want to click and learn more about it.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about the triggers that reveal something bad happened to them.
Examples of this hook in action:
- These Triggers Are “The Tell” Your YouTube Channel Is Failing
- These Are The Signs Your Garden Is Dying

Free Tools
Title: 12 Free Tools I’d Use to Learn Japanese (If I Could Start Over)
Formula: 12 Free Tools I’d Use to [Achieve Goal] (If I Could Start Over)
Hook score: +716
Why this works:
List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about) and they add some curiosity.
Desire – This creator’s audience wants to learn Japanese and “free tools” makes it sound even better.
Beginner tips – The “If I Could Start Over” part relates to and attracts beginners, which is the biggest, hungriest part of any audience.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about the free tools you’d use to learn your subject if you could start over.
Examples of this hook in action:
- 12 Free Tools I’d Use to Learn Guitar (If I Could Start Over)
- 12 Free Tools I’d Use to Learn Graphic Design (If I Could Start Over)
Realistic Renders
Title: I Made Famous Logos ULTRA Realistic
Formula: I Made Famous (Objects) ULTRA (Description)
Hook score: +1020
Why this works:
Curiosity – The realistic logo on the right being blurred out and the title both do a great job at starting a story, but leaving you on a cliffhanger so you have to click and see what they look like and how he did it.
How you can use this hook: Turn something famous into an unexpected version of it.
Examples of this hook in action:
- I Played Famous Guitar Solos On The Piano
- I Made Famous Logos Into Desserts
End of EVs
Title: Toyota CEO: “This New Engine Will Destroy The Entire EV Industry!”
Formula: (Authority Figure): “This New (Object) Will Destroy The Entire (Industry)!”
Hook score: +12857
Why this works:
Negativity – “Destroy the Entire EV Industry” is full of drama, which grabs people’s attention and makes them click.
Timeliness – The fact that this is about a new engine makes this feel like news and tells the audience this is relevant right now.
Authority – This uses the position of “Toyota CEO” to grab attention and build credibility.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about dramatic news an authority figure announced.
Examples of this hook in action:
- Microsoft CEO: “This New Technology Will Destroy The Entire Gaming Industry!”
- Elon Musk: “This New Rocket Will Destroy The Entire Space Industry!”
Flop of the Week
Title: Tren Maya: Mexico‘s Biggest Megaproject
Hook score: -89
Why this flopped: I think this flopped because it’s a boring idea.
The Tren Maya is just a train cutting through the jungle that nobody wants (according to the video).
Compare this to the other video in this edition from this channel mentioned earlier about The Cube.
It’s a massive golden cube big enough to fit 20 Empire State Buildings inside of it.
Because this is a bleh idea, the thumbnail turned out bleh too.
The image in the Tren Maya thumbnail is a little unclear. Then, once you realize it’s just a path cut in the jungle, it’s unimpressive (and kinda sad if you’re a tree hugger like me).
To avoid this mistake, make sure you have a great topic, title and thumbnail before you spend time and money creating your video.
Alright, that wraps up this week’s Creator Hooks!
Hope you enjoyed this week’s edition and if you know a fellow creator who needs help with writing better titles, please send them to creatorhooks.com.
