Cheapies
Title: 10 of the CHEAPEST PlayStation Accessories You Should Buy!
Formula: 10 of the CHEAPEST (Entity) Accessories You Should Buy!
Hook score: +343
Why this works:
List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about) and they add some curiosity.
Desire – This creator’s audience loves gaming accessories, especially cheap ones.
Extreme – These aren’t just cheap accessories, they’re the “CHEAPEST“, which builds curiosity because they’re extreme and unique.
Accessible – Everybody can benefit from cheap things, so this video has a broader audience than, say, the most expensive accessories you can buy.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience about the cheapest accessories they should buy.
Examples of this hook in action:
- 10 of the CHEAPEST Sewing Accessories You Should Buy!
- 10 of the CHEAPEST Golf Accessories You Should Buy!
Ballin on a Budget
Title: How I Manage My Money On A Low Income (Budgeting + Saving)
Formula: How I [Achieve Goal] On A [Tough, Common Condition] ([Keyword] + [Keyword])
Hook score: +371
Why this works:
Desire – This creator’s audience wants to know how to manage their money.
Specific Audience – By saying this is for people on a low income, this makes this video way more attractive to people on a low income (which is a large potential audience).
Negativity – This title calls out a pain point (low income) and promises to help manage it better.
Accessible – Like the video above about cheap accessories, this video appeals to a big audience because many people are on a low income.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience how to achieve a goal even if they’re in a tough situation.
Examples of this hook in action:
- How I Study With A Full-Time Job (Productivity + Memory Tricks)
- How I Travel On A Low Income (Flight & Hotel Hacks)

Just a small town girl
Title: I Visited the Most Remote Town in the USA (Outside of Alaska)
Formula: I (Activity) the (Extreme Entity) in (Place)
Hook score: +501
Why this works:
Extreme – Doing extreme and epic things like this is more interesting than, say, “I Visited A Really Remote Town”.
Negativity – “The Most Remote Town” instills a bit of fear and heebie-jeebies, which also makes this video more interesting.
How you can use this hook: Do something epic and extreme.
Examples of this hook in action:
- I Lifted the Heaviest Dumbbell In The World
- I Played the Scariest Game In The World
Foot Stuff
Title: How to INSTANTLY Improve Circulation in Your Feet and Toes
Formula: How to INSTANTLY (Achieve Goal)
Hook score: +522
Why this works:
Desire – Not only do many people want to improve the circulation in their feet and toes, but they also want to do it instantly.
Curiosity – “Do This” in the thumbnail is a cliffhanger that makes you want to click and find out what “this” is.
Negativity – “Bad Circulation?” in the thumbnail calls out a common pain point.
How you can use this hook: Tell your audience how to instantly achieve a goal.
Examples of this hook in action:
- How to INSTANTLY Quit Procrastinating
- How to INSTANTLY Upgrade Your Style
It’s going down for real
Title: EMERGENCY EPISODE: Ex-Google Officer Finally Speaks Out On The Dangers Of AI! – Mo Gawdat | E252
Formula: EMERGENCY (Medium): Ex-(Company Employee) Finally Speaks Out On (Controversial and/or Trending Subject)
Hook score: +1013
Why this works:
Negativity – This title hypes up the drama with “EMERGENCY EPISODE” in the beginning and doubles down on it by talking about the dangers of AI. “EMERGENCY EPISODE” also adds urgency to this video to make you want to watch it now.
Authority – Since this is from an Ex-Google officer, this title has more credibility.
Timeliness – Everybody is talking about AI right now, so this video rides that wave.
How you can use this hook: Build up the drama with an “emergency” video and tell your audience about something dangerous and trending. (Bonus points if the warning comes from a reputable source.)
Examples of this hook in action:
- EMERGENCY VIDEO: Ex-Instagram Officer Speaks Out On The Privacy Danger From Threads!
- EMERGENCY EPISODE: Ex-NFL Coach Finally Speaks Out On The Dangers Of Concussions
Flop of the Week
Title: The Surprising & Unbelievable Dark Side Of Open Relationships: Aubrey Marcus | E242
Hook score: -80
Why this flopped: Good titles make you say, “Wait, what?!” *Clicks video to find out more*
This title makes me say, “There’s a dark side to open relationships? Duh!”
There’s no curiosity here because it’s obvious there’s a dark side to open relationships.
The best titles are non-obvious. They challenge the audience’s assumptions and show them a new truth.
To avoid making this mistake, know what your audience believes to be true and in your title and thumbnail show them they’re actually wrong.
