I’ve asked some of the best creators on YouTube, “How do you write such great titles?”

And they’ve all said the same thing: “I just model what works.”

So this email will show you 5 videos worth modeling to help you write great titles and save time.

Buzzing the Burns

Title: Stop Trimming Your Sideburns WRONG!

Framework: Stop (Simple activity) WRONG!

Outlier score: 3.8x

Why this works:

Negativity – Warning people to stop doing something wrong (that they assume they’re doing right) is a great way to grab their attention.

Curiosity – For many people, this is counterintuitive. What’s shown in the picture is exactly how they trim their sideburns.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience to stop doing something wrong that they assume they’re doing right.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • Stop Gripping Your Tennis Racket WRONG!
  • Stop Hiring Lawyers For DUIs!

Pub Principles

British Pubs

📁 Bookmark this video

Title: The 5 Rules of Every British Pub (that tourist mess up)

Framework: The 5 Rules of Every [Entity] (that [Group] mess up)

Outlier score: 4.7x

Why this works:

List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about), and they add some curiosity.

Negativity – This leverages fear that you’ll accidentally break one of these rules.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about the rules of something (ideally, something interesting or polarizing) that many people mess up.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • The 5 Rules of First Dates (that guys mess up)
  • The 5 Rules of Driving a Supercar (that amateurs mess up)

Forceful Focus

distractions

📁 Bookmark this video

Title: the kind of focus that makes you immune to distraction

Framework: the kind of (Skill) that makes you immune to (Problem)

Outlier score: 9.4x

Why this works:

Desire – This creator’s audience would love to get better at focusing.

Curiosity – This opens a loop and makes you wonder what kind of focus this is.

Negativity – Mentioning a specific problem (distraction) grabs the audience’s attention here.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about the kind of skill that makes them immune to a problem.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • the kind of training that makes you never get tired
  • the kind of garden that’s immune to pests and disease

Lulu Lessons

📁 Bookmark this video

Title: How I Built a Product the Same Way Lululemon Finds Winners

Framework: How I (Activity) the Same Way (Authority figure succeeds)

Outlier score: 12.7x

Why this works:

Authority – This creator builds trust by dropping in Lululemon’s name.

Desire – This creator’s audience would love to build a winning product.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about how you did something the same way an authority in your space did it.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • How I Built a Podcast the Same Way Diary of a CEO Built Theirs
  • How I Cook Steak the Same Way Bern’s Steakhouse Cooks It

Baby Blues

📁 Bookmark this video

Title: 10 EVERYDAY Things That HURT’S Your Baby’s FEELINGS (STOP NOW)

Framework: 10 EVERYDAY Things That [Unwanted result] (STOP NOW)

Outlier score: 29.7x

Why this works:

List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about), and they add some curiosity.

Negativity – No parent wants to hurt their baby’s feelings, so they feel like they have to watch this video.

Curiosity – It’s counterintuitive that innocent, everyday things would hurt a baby’s feelings.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about innocent, everyday things that have a negative effect.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • 10 EVERYDAY Cleaning Products That Are Actually Toxic (STOP NOW)
  • 10 Tech Products You Use Every Day That HURT Your Body (STOP NOW)

Flop of the Week

fix this presentation

Title: The Presentation Problem Killing Your Service Business

Outlier score: 0.2x

Why this flopped: This title is too specific.

Now, the idea might be too specific, and maybe it wasn’t the best idea to start with, but let’s pretend that we’re this creator and we have to make a video about presentations killing our service business.

The issue is that the audience might have this presentation problem, but not realize it, so they think this video isn’t for them.

In this case, it might’ve gotten more views if she made the title more vague and broadly appealing, while honing in on the problem or benefit.

“These 3 Words Are Killing Your Service Business”

“This Simple Change Earned Him An Extra $10,000 Last Month”

Of course, if you go with a title like this, you need to sell the viewer on why watching your video is so important to them, so they don’t think you’re clickbaiting them, but you could also say that about every other video.

If they don’t click at all, you have no chance of helping them out.

Alright, that wraps up this week’s Creator Hooks!

Audit Incoming

this triggers audit

Title: What Actually Triggers an IRS Audit

Framework: What Actually Triggers (Bad thing)

Hook score: +466

Why this works:

Negativity – Nobody wants to get audited, so this title leverages that fear.

Curiosity – “What Actually” opens a loop and makes you want to know what triggers an audit. “Actually” also brings a little bit of secrecy and promises insider information.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about what actually triggers something bad.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • What Actually Triggers Procrastination
  • What Actually Triggers Belly Fat

Horrible Houses

15-year house

Title: Why 90% of New Homes Are Garbage (The “Builder Grade” Lie)

Framework: Why 90% of [Entities] Are Garbage (The “[Fancy label]” Lie)

Hook score: +756

Why this works:

Negativity – People love drama, controversy, and conspiracy like this.

Curiosity – Promising to answer “why” opens a loop a little bit, but this title is also a little counterintuitive because of “New Homes Are Garbage”. You’d hope something new is nice, not garbage.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience why something they expect to be nice is actually garbage.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • Why 90% of Organic Food Is a Scam (The “Natural” Lie)
  • Why 90% of Golf Tips Are Garbage (The “Pro Tip” Lie)

AI Gold Rush

ai tool logos

Title: I Tried 500+ AI Tools, These 9 Will Make You Rich

Framework: I Tried 500+ (Entities), These 9 Will (Achieve goal)

Hook score: +992

Why this works:

Experience – His experience with these tools brings trust and credibility to this video.

List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about), and they add some curiosity.

Desire – This creator’s audience would love to get rich from AI tools.

Curiosity – This opens a loop and makes you want to know which tools these are.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience that you put a lot of effort into testing things, then tell them which options will help them achieve a goal.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • I Read 400+ Fantasy Books, These 9 Are The Best
  • I Played 100+ RPG Games, These Are The Only 9 You Need To Play

Page Turners

man with books

Title: 10 books that will make you ADDICTED to reading!

Framework: 10 (Entities) that will make you ADDICTED to (Activity)!

Hook score: +1930

Why this works:

List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about), and they add some curiosity.

Desire – This creator’s audience is into great books.

Spice – “ADDICTED” adds some spice and emotion to make this not just a boring list title.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about things that will get them addicted to a good thing.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • 5 tools that will make you ADDICTED to vibe coding!
  • 10 first date questions to get her ADDICTED to you

King of Kings

every religions view of Jesus

Title: Every Religion’s View Of Jesus Explained In Detail

Framework: Every (General entity’s) View Of (Specific entity) Explained In Detail

Hook score: +24,424

Why this works:

Curiosity – This builds curiosity because it promises (or alludes to) contrast. It’s interesting to see how different things think about or react to the same thing.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience what different camps think about something.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • Every Country’s View Of Immigration Explained In Detail
  • Every Sport’s Road to a Championship Explained In Detail

Flop of the Week

elon musk calling

Title: Give Me 11 Minutes, I’ll Show You How To Reach Anyone In The World

Hook score: -89

Why this flopped: This is a proven title format, but no matter how good of a format you use, if the audience isn’t interested in the topic, your video probably won’t do well.

I’m assuming that’s what’s going on here — the audience just doesn’t seem to care enough about reaching anyone in the world.

In this case, I’d just focus on the benefit of reaching anyone in the world:

“This Simple Skill Made Me An Extra $100,000 Last Year”

“This 5-Step System Will Change Your Business Forever”

(Admittedly, I don’t love these, but they’re just examples of how you could think outside of the box about your titles.)

The Future

consumer trends

Title: 5 Consumer Trends That Will Define 2026: What’s Next in Social Media & More | GaryVee

Framework: 5 (Niche) Trends That Will Define (Upcoming Year): What’s Next in (Niche)

Hook score: +341

Why this works:

List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about), and they add some curiosity.

Future – Talking about the future builds curiosity because there’s tension between the fact that everybody wants to know what the future holds, but nobody actually knows what it holds.

Year – Dropping in the upcoming year is a great way to grab your audience’s attention.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about the trends that will define your niche in the next year.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • 5 Housing Trends That Will Define 2026: What’s Next in the Real Estate Market
  • 5 AI Trends That Will Define 2026: What’s Next in Generative AI

Money Trees

farmer with 2 acres

Title: The Secret To Growing $100,000 On A Small Farm (No Tractor Needed!)

Framework: The Secret To [Achieving a big goal] [With constraint] ([Biggest excuse eliminated])

Hook score: +550

Why this works:

Curiosity – This title builds curiosity in two ways:

  1. Dropping the word “Secret” is a simple way to build curiosity about your topic.
  2. There’s contrast between “$100,000” (a big gain) and “Small farm”.

Desire – This creator’s audience would love to grow $100,000 on their farm.

Refute objection – This title refutes two objections:

  1. “Small Farm” refutes the objection that you need a big farm to grow $100,000.
  2. Many people might think a tractor is too big and expensive, so “(No Tractor Needed!)” resolves that.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about the secret to achieving a big goal with some constraints, or without their biggest obstacles.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • The Secret To Earning $100,000 As A Small Creator (No Team Needed!)
  • The Secret To Earning $100,000 As A Photographer (No Studio Needed!)
  • Write better YouTube titles

Thanos Pricing

runner crossing finish line

Title: I Won 3 NCAA Titles…But It Cost Me Everything

Framework: I (Achieved big goal)…But It Cost Me Everything

Hook score: +1399

Why this works:

Credibility – By starting this title with “I Won 3 NCAA Titles”, she shows you her experience and why she’s worth listening to. It also serves up this next reason that makes this title so good…

Negativity – People love dramatic stories like this.

Curiosity – This title builds curiosity in two ways:

  1. There’s contrast between “I Won 3 NCAA Titles” (yay) and “Cost Me Everything” (uh oh).
  2. It opens a loop and makes you wonder what happened and what it cost her.

How you can use this framework: Tell the story of how you (or somebody else) achieved a big goal, but it cost you everything.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • I Got My Dream Job…But It Cost Me Everything
  • Abe Lincoln is America’s Favorite President…But It Cost Him Everything

The 1%

1% teach their kids

Title: What The 1% Teach Their Kids About Money

Framework: What The 1% Teach Their Kids About (Niche)

Hook score: +1478

Why this works:

Authority – The fact that this video is about the 1% makes it feel more credible and desirable.

Desire – People want to know what the 1% know about money so they can make more money, too.

Curiosity – This opens a loop and makes you wonder what they teach their kids about money.

Believability – The fact this is what the 1% teach their kids about money, and not what they’re trying to teach you (and potentially influence you for their gain), makes it more believable. You know they have their kids’ best interests at heart, so it feels more possible that you’ll actually get helpful information.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about what the 1% (or other elite group) teach their kids about something.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • What The 1% Teach Their Kids About Charisma
  • What Happily Married Couples Teach Their Kids About Relationships

Discipline Decree

mother disciplining

Title: The Japanese Rule That Teaches Kids Self-Discipline (Not Blind Obedience)

Framework: The [Authoritative culture] Rule That [Achieves goal] (Not [Shallow result])

Hook score: +4048

Why this works:

Authority – Since many people view Japanese people as self-disciplined, the fact that this the “Japanese Rule” builds more trust and interest.

Desire – Many parents want their kids to be more self-disciplined.

Refute Objection – Many people don’t want their kids to have blind obedience, so this title refutes that objection

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about the rule from an authoritative place that teaches a goal while avoiding an unwanted problem.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • The Navy SEAL Method That Creates Strong Leaders (Not Yes-Men)
  • The Swedish Rule That Creates Happy Employees (Not Workaholics)

Flop of the Week

gary vee

Title: Why Every Brand Needs to Know About Pop Culture Trends To Win | Tea with GaryVee 91

Hook score: -78

Why this flopped: Here are some of this channel’s most popular videos:

  • “How Anyone Can Make $1M in 24 Months: Social Media & Marketing Playbook for 2026” (143K views)
  • “This Is How You Actually Grow in 2026: Social Media & AI Strategy” (72K views)
  • “The Ultimate AI Playbook for 2026: Be Early. Go All In.” (141K views)

These successful videos feel like they’re all directed at creators or entrepreneurs, but this flop is directed at brands.

Now this might be a more profitable video in the short term, but generally speaking, if you’re trying to maximize views and grow your channel long term, you want to make videos for one audience (in this case, brands OR creators).

This helps YouTube know who to show your videos to and it makes it easier for people to binge your channel.

Alright, that wraps up this week’s Creator Hooks!

Title: 10 Common Weeds That Are Actually Expensive Superfoods (Growing in Your Yard Right Now!)

Framework: 10 Common [Unwanted entities] That Are Actually [Desirable entities] ([Action] in Your [Possession] Right Now!)

Hook score: +419

Why this works:

List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about), and they add some curiosity.

Curiosity – It’s counterintuitive that common weeds would actually be expensive superfoods.

Desire – This creator’s audience would love to find expensive superfoods in their yard.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about supposedly unfortunate things they’re probably dealing with that are actually incredible things.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • 10 Common Kitchen Scraps That Are Actually Gourmet Ingredients (You’ve Been Throwing Them Away!)
  • 10 Annoying Life Expenses That Are Actually Huge Tax Write-Offs

The Wonder Walk

Title: How Farmers Walks Completely Change The Human Body

Framework: How (Activity or thing) Completely Change (Possession)

Hook score: +1145

Why this works:

Curiosity – This builds curiosity because it’s about change, but it doesn’t specify what will change or how it will change.

Desire – The thumbnail and tone of this title hint that the change is something awesome.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about how an action completely changes something for your audience.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • How Composting Completely Changes Your Garden Soil
  • How Daily Meditation Completely Changes The Human Brain

Tricky Tax

lawyer with notebook

Title: 95% Tax on Inherited IRAs and How to AVOID it!

Framework: (Problem) and How to AVOID it!

Hook score: +2106

Why this works:

Negativity – Videos about avoiding big problems like this do a great job of grabbing attention.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about how to avoid a big problem.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • 50% Muscle Loss After 50 and How to AVOID it!
  • 75% of Studying Forgotten Within 24 Hours and How to AVOID it!

Flop of the Week

man doing exercises

Title: Why Your Body FEELS 10 Years Older Than It Is (And how to fix it)

Hook score: -98

Why this flopped: I’m not sure of one particular reason this flopped, but here are some ideas:

  1. Most of the successful videos are about certain exercises, so a title like, “Do These Exercises Every Morning To Stop Feeling Stiff,” might’ve been a better approach.
  2. It might’ve been more effective and clear to say “Why You’re 40 But FEEL 50 (And how to fix it)”. That states the “feel 10 years older” in more easier-to-read terms. Of course, it also narrows the audience, so that would depend on the channel’s audience whether or not it makes sense to narrow the focus.
  3. It also might’ve been more effective if the title were more focused on a specific pain, like “Why Your Back Hurts Every Morning (And how to fix it)”.

In summary, know why people watch your channel and deliver on that, and use simple, visual language in your titles.

Alright, that wraps up this week’s Creator Hooks!

  1. It makes this video more tangible and interesting.
  2. It increases the desire because 15 minutes isn’t that long to become dangerously confident.

Drama – “Dangerously Confident” sounds a lot cooler and adds more drama and spice than just “Confident”.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience to give you a specific amount of time and you’ll help them achieve a cool, spicy goal.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • Give me 15 Minutes and I’ll Make you Dangerously Handsome
  • Give me 15 Minutes and I’ll Make you Freakishly Strong

Freaky Fast

fast runners

Title: ⚠How to run so fast it feels unnatural 🏃‍♂️⚡💨

Framework: ⚠How to (Do an activity so well) it feels unnatural 🏃‍♂️⚡💨

Hook score: +1466

Why this works:

Desire – This creator’s audience would love to run faster.

Another element at work here is, “show don’t tell.” If this title were “how to run really fast,” that probably wouldn’t have been as effective as running “so fast it feels unnatural.”

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience how to do something so well it feels unnatural.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • How to learn so fast it feels unnatural
  • How to get promoted so fast it feels like cheating

Study Smackdown

man at dry erase board

Title: How to DESTROY your exam like it owes you money (by a straight A engineering student)

Framework: How to DESTROY your [Entity] like it owes you money (by a [Authority figure])

Hook score: +1764

Why this works:

Desire – This creator’s audience would love to destroy their exam.

Authority – This creator builds trust by dropping that he’s a straight-A engineering student at the end.

Drama – Destroying your exam like it owes you money is a way more fun and dramatic way to say “get an A on your exam.”

How you can use this framework: Teach your audience how to destroy something like it owes them money, and at the end, drop in why they should listen to you.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • How to DESTROY your sales targets like they owe you money (by a top 1% closer)
  • How to DESTROY your marathon PR like it owes you money (by a sub-3 hour runner)

A/B Test of the Week

When you’re writing titles, it often helps to talk about things in broad terms. This makes it easier to read and understand.

In this example, most people don’t know who Markelle Fultz is, but even if they did, they may not be interested, or it may take them a second to scan through their memory to remember who he is.

“NBA Bust” is way more interesting, easier to read, and easier to understand.

If you find yourself getting into the weeds in your titles, back it up a bit and give things broadly appealing labels so that your audience can quickly and easily know what your video is about.

Genius + New = $

curtain rod

Title: The GENIUS new shower curtain idea people are using in their living room!

Framework: The GENIUS new (Entity) idea people are using in (Unexpected entity)

Hook score: +583

Why this works:

Desire – This creator’s audience loves genius DIY home decor ideas.

New – Everybody loves new things.

Curiosity – This builds curiosity two ways:

  1. It gets you interested in the idea, but doesn’t give any details, so you have to click to see what the idea is.
  2. It’s counterintuitive – aren’t shower curtains supposed to be used in the bathroom, not the living room?

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about a genius new counterintuitive idea.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • The GENIUS new TikTok strategy people are using on YouTube!
  • The GENIUS new dinner recipe people are using for breakfast!

Senior Slap

house for sale sign

Title: Beware of The HUGE Medicare Penalty for Selling Your Home After 63

Framework: Beware of The HUGE (Problem) for (Activity)

Hook score: +854

Why this works:

Negativity – Warnings like this do a great job of grabbing the audience’s attention.

Specific Audience – Calling out a large, but specific audience, like people selling their home after 63, can work well because it makes them feel like you made the video specifically for them.

How you can use this framework: Warn a specific part of your audience about doing a certain action.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • Beware of The OUTRAGEOUS Charge for Booking Flights on Weekends
  • Beware of The SEVERE Security Risk for older iPhones
  • Write better YouTube titles
  • Grow your channel
  • Save time

The One and Only

man speaking English

Title: The ONLY way to become fluent in ENGLISH

Framework: The ONLY way to (Achieve Goal)

Hook score: +1331

Why this works:

Desire – This creator’s audience wants to be fluent in English.

Curiosity – This opens a loop and makes you want to know which way he’s talking about.

Constraint – The constraint of the “ONLY way” makes this video so much more challenging and interesting.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about the ONLY way to achieve a goal.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • The ONLY way to ask a girl out
  • The ONLY way to swing a golf club

Stranger Things

crowd of people in China

Title: Something Strange is Happening in China

Framework: Something Strange is Happening in (Entity)

Hook score: +1339

Why this works:

Curiosity – This simple title builds curiosity two ways:

  1. Talking about “strange” things builds curiosity.
  2. It opens a loop and makes you wonder what exactly is happening.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience that something strange is happening in your niche.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • Something Strange is Happening in the Stock Market
  • Something Strange is Happening in Minecraft

Youthful Yummies

happy looking man

Title: 🔥 I’m 52 But Feel 32—This Is the Lunch I Eat Every Day

Framework: I’m (Actual state) But Feel (Better state)—This Is the (Entity) I (Activity) Every Day

Hook score: +1616

Why this works:

Desire – Most 52-year-olds would love to feel 32. Plus, they’d love to know which lunch can help them achieve that.

Credibility – This one might be a bit of a stretch because it’s not exactly verifiable, but by claiming he feels 32, it makes him sound more credible, so you’re more interested in his opinion and habits.

Contrast – The contrast between “I’m 52” and “Feel 32” builds interest and curiosity here.

Daily – Talking about things you do every day makes the video feel more tangible and interesting.

Specific – This isn’t about vague health tips, this is about something specific: the lunch he eats every day.

How you can use this framework: State why you’re worth listening to, then tell your audience about something specific you do every day to help keep you in the state they want to be in.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • 🔥 I’m 23 But Worth $10 Million —This is the Speaking Trick I Use Every Day
  • I’m 56 But Look 36—This Is My Daily Natural Skincare Routine

Flop of the Week

waymo car

Title: Is Waymo About to Dethrone Uber?

Hook score: -83

Why this flopped: This is a good title.

In fact, it’s so good that a video by this channel using the same exact format got 405K views: “Is Chipotle About to Dethrone McDonald’s?”

So why did this one flop, but the Chipotle video went viral?

Here’s my best guess: most of us love Chipotle. We read that title and think, “Yes! Go Chipotle!” and then watch the video to see how they’re going to dethrone McDonald’s.

But do people feel the same way about Waymo? Would you describe yourself as being on Team Waymo?

Maybe I’m just a simple Florida man, but I don’t think so. And since nobody has strong emotions about Waymo, this title just doesn’t excite you as much as the Chipotle video.

So, how else could we title this video?

Well, we might not need to use Waymo in the title. We might be better off using an easily understood label instead and adding some more drama:

“This Small Startup Is About To Ruin Uber”

(Yes, I know Waymo isn’t small, but compared to Uber it is. We could also leave out the “small” if we wanted.)

Or, we could focus the title wholly on Uber:

“Uber Is About To Collapse”

The lesson: modeling proven formats is the best way to come up with great video ideas, but ideally, you know exactly why the original video did so well, and your idea matches those conditions.

Oh, and have a few backup titles just in case.

That New New

intelligent man

Title: The NEW Way To Beat Instagram’s Algorithm in 2025

Framework: The NEW Way To (Achieve Goal) in (Current Year)

Hook score: +301

Why this works:

Desire – This creator’s audience would love to beat Instagram’s algorithm.

Timeliness – This title lets the audience know this is relevant right now because he drops in the current year.

New Opportunity – New opportunities, like, “The NEW Way To Beat Instagram’s Algorithm,” offer hope because if you’ve failed at beating the Instagram algorithm so far, maybe now you’ll be able to beat it using this new way.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about the new way to achieve a goal that’s working right now.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • The NEW Way To Flip Houses in 2025
  • The NEW Way To Beat Belly Fat in 2025

Victimology 101

man looking scared

Title: How Airport Thieves Pick Their Victims (Avoid These Mistakes!)

Framework: How [Unwanted Things Happen] (Avoid These Mistakes!)

Hook score: +501

Why this works:

Negativity – This leverages negativity to grab your attention two ways:

  1. It’s about thieves and victims.
  2. It’s about avoiding mistakes.

This title is also effective because it’s subtly persuasive. It’s not trying to convince you to follow these tips to avoid getting robbed.

It’s about what the thieves do, then you can choose for yourself to avoid those mistakes.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about how the enemy makes their decisions so they can avoid a bad situation.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • How Computer Hackers Pick Their Victims (Avoid These Mistakes!)
  • How Hiring Managers Identify Bad Candidates (Avoid These Mistakes!)
  • Write better YouTube titles
  • Grow your channel
  • Save time

Hidden Hostility

man speaking with authority

Title: You’re in a War (and You Don’t Even Know It) | Eric Weinstein [ARC 2025]

Framework: You’re in a [Bad situation] (and You Don’t Even Know It)

Hook score: +2657

Why this works:

Negativity – Being told you’re in a war grabs your attention, and not even knowing it doubles up on that ominous feeling.

Curiosity – “(and You Don’t Even Know It)” makes you feel like you’re getting in on a secret.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience that they’re in a bad situation and they don’t even know it.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • You’re Wasting Your Most Productive Hours (and You Don’t Even Know It)
  • You’re Sabotaging Your Marriage (and You Don’t Even Know It)

Morning Melting

man holding coffee mug

Title: 5 Morning Habits That MELT Belly Fat

Framework: 5 (Specific time) Habits That (Achieve Goal)

Hook score: +6563

Why this works:

List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about) and they add some curiosity.

Desire – This creator’s audience would love to melt their belly fat.

Negativity – This isn’t about habits to get a 6-pack (desire), this is about habits to melt belly fat (pain point).

Specific – Making this video specifically about “morning” habits makes this more specific, tangible, and interesting.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about specific habits that can help them solve a problem or achieve a goal.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • 5 Morning Habits That ELIMINATE Anxiety
  • 5 Daily Habits That STOP Your Driver Slice

Suit Up

man wears suit, man wears casual

Title: I tested Suit vs No Suit — Do people treat you differently?

Framework: I tested (Option A) vs (Option B) — (Is there a different outcome?)

Hook score: +26000

Why this works:

Credibility – Experiments like this are more persuasive and credible because the creator actually went out and did something (they’re not just preaching their opinion).

Curiosity – This builds curiosity two ways:

  1. It asks a question.
  2. There’s contrast between suit and no suit.

How you can use this framework: Test two opposite options and report if there’s a difference.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • I tested Expensive vs Cheap Wine — Could I tell the difference?
  • I tested AI vs Human-Written Resume — Which got more interviews?

Flop of the Week

main with text "most travelers have NO idea."

Title: 10 DEADLY Travel Mistakes NOBODY Is Talking About

Hook score: -89

Why this flopped: This title follows a proven format, but I think there’s one problem with it: it’s too broad.

There are three ways this might’ve done better by being more specific:

#1: More specific topic

Looking at some of his recent successful videos, I wonder if this would’ve gotten more views if he decided to focus on airport or hotel mistakes instead of general travel mistakes.

#2: More specific title

Even if he kept the same topic, it might help to write the title around one specific mistake. For example, “Why I’ll Never Rent A Scooter In Southeast Asia Again.”

When I make list videos like this, I typically have a few specific titles about a single topic from the video and a few broad list titles to test out.

#3: More specific thumbnail

Just like writing the title about one specific point, it could also be worth making the thumbnail about one specific point. Something like, “Never Do This In Mexico,” and the thumbnail image is doing something many people like to do in Mexico.

In summary, you might consider testing broad vs. narrow titles on your channel to see what resonates best with your audience.

Change In Your Pocket

man wearing a sweater with text: "you can become rich in 6 months"

Title: You Can Change Your Finances in 6 Months… Here’s How

Framework: You Can Change (Possession) in 6 Months… Here’s How

Hook score: +504

Why this works:

Desire – People love transformation (the word “change” promises this) and making more money.

Time Frame – The relatively short time frame of 6 months adds to the desire, plus it makes this video feel more tangible and interesting.

Curiosity – This builds curiosity two ways:

  1. It has an open-ended “Here’s How” at the end that makes you want to know more.
  2. “Change Your Finances” is vague and makes you wonder how your finances will change.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience how they can change a problem area in their life in a relatively short time.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • You Can Change Your Body in 6 Months… Here’s How
  • You Can Change Your Golf Swing in 1 Session… Here’s How

Credibility – This creator proves why she’s worth listening to by mentioning that she got straight As.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience how you did something to achieve a goal your audience wants to achieve.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • How I Budgeted in My 20s (to Buy a HOUSE at 27)
  • How I Create YouTube Videos (to get 100K subscribers)
  • Write better YouTube titles
  • Grow your channel

Wasting Away

trash can

Title: 8 things I did to stop wasting my evenings after work

Framework: 8 things I did to stop (Making specific mistake)

Hook score: +877

Why this works:

List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about) and they add some curiosity.

Negativity – This is about moving away from pain — stopping wasting evenings — as opposed to moving towards pleasure, like being more productive in the evenings.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about a list of things you did to stop experiencing a problem.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • 8 things I did to stop girls ghosting me after the first date
  • 8 things I did to stop sales prospects telling me “I’ll think about it”

Grandma’s Greens

family from the 1950s standing in a garden

Title: 15 FORGOTTEN Vegetables Your Grandparents Grew That NEED to Come Back

Framework: 15 FORGOTTEN (Entities) (Old, respected group) (Activity) That NEED to Come Back

Hook score: +2429

Why this works:

List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about) and they add some curiosity.

Nostalgia – “FORGOTTEN Vegetables Your Grandparents Grew” leverages nostalgia to get you emotionally invested in this video.

Curiosity – “FORGOTTEN” adds a little mystery to this title.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about forgotten, nostalgic things that need to come back.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • 15 FORGOTTEN Parenting Tips Your Grandma Did That NEEDS to Come Back
  • 15 FORGOTTEN Games Your Grandparents Played That NEED to Come Back

Better Than Words

woman speaking at a conference

Title: When Helping An Upset Child, Don’t Talk & Try This Instead

Framework: When (Solving a problem), Don’t (Logical activity) & Try This Instead

Hook score: +18,272

Why this works:

Negativity – This is all about solving a problem.

Curiosity – This builds curiosity two ways:

  1. It’s counterintuitive because many people might think it’s best to talk.
  2. It opens a loop because it makes you want to know what “this” is.

Editor’s picky note: if I was writing this title I’d use “but” instead of “&” because typically “but” adds more conflict and tension than “and,” which makes for a better title.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience that when they’re solving a problem, don’t do a logical, assumed solution, but try “this” instead.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • When Growing Tomatoes, Don’t Just Water Them & Try This Instead
  • When Learning Piano, Don’t Practice Every Day But Try This Instead

A/B Test of the Week

"Facebook’s New Protection Program Is Weird" got a 37% higher CTR than "The Truth About Facebook's New Protection Program"

“The Truth About” is a proven framework, so why did this title not win?

Two thoughts:

  1. Sometimes popular frameworks can get played out and people lose interest in them (I think that’s happening a little bit with “the truth about” in some niches).
  2. Sometimes good titles just don’t do that well for reasons that are hard to understand.

In this case, I tested a bold, opinionated, open-ended statement and it worked.

Plus, the word “weird” often works well.

Timeliness – This doubles up on timeliness:

  1. They dropped the current year in the title.

Flop of the Week

email marketing guide

Title: The ONLY Ecommerce Email Marketing Guide You’ll Need

Hook score: -94

Why this flopped: There are a few reasons why this might have flopped:

  1. In the last year or so, this is the only video with “email marketing” in the title. It might not be the best topic for his channel.
  2. It might be too far down in the funnel. Optimizing your email marketing has a lot less of a potential audience than, say, finding products to drop ship.
  3. It might not be compelling enough. I love using “ONLY” in titles, but it’s possible the title just isn’t sexy enough.

Now the first two reasons this might’ve flopped are about the topic, but there’s not much we can do about that now that the video is already published. So let’s brainstorm some ideas to make the title more compelling.

We could add a benefit:

“Copy This Email Marketing Sequence To Blow Up Your Ecom Store In 2025”

I’ve asked some of the best creators on YouTube, “How do you write such great titles?”

And they’ve all said the same thing: “I just model what works.”

So this email will show you 5 videos worth modeling to help you write great titles and save time.

Fantastic Four Fever

woman from fantastic four

Title: Everyone’s Saying The Same Thing About The Fantastic Four Teaser

Framework: Everyone’s Saying The Same Thing About (Trending Entity)

Hook score: +313

Why this works:

Curiosity – This opens a loop and makes you want to know what everyone is saying.

Social Proof – Since “everyone” is saying it, it must be interesting, right?

Timeliness – This video was published right after the Fantastic Four Teaser was published.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience that everyone’s saying the same thing about something currently trending.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • Everyone’s Saying The Same Thing About The 2025 MLB Season
  • Everyone’s Saying The Same Thing About The New Macbook

Dynamic Dobermans

doberman with tennis ball in mouth

Title: Why the Doberman Crushes Every Other Dog Breed

Framework: Why (Entity) (Action) Every Other (Entity category)

Hook score: +945

Why this works:

Extreme – Bold, extreme statements like this often make for great titles on YouTube.

Curiosity – Starting this title with “Why” is a simple way to add a little curiosity.

Controversial – Some people would disagree with this statement, which often makes for a great YouTube title.

How you can use this framework: Make a bold, polarizing statement about why one thing crushes all other options.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • Why the Espresso Crushes Every Other Coffee Drink
  • Why Poland Is The Best European Country To Visit
  • Write better YouTube titles
  • Grow your channel
  • Save time

P.S. Here’s a big win from a Creator Hooks Pro customer:

Relationship Realities

people in a relationship

Title: if you’ve never been in a relationship, watch this (2025)

Framework: if you [Are in an undesirable state], watch this ([Current year])

Hook score: +1660

Why this works:

Negativity & Specific – Calling out a group of people with a specific pain point (like people who’ve never been in a relationship) is a great way to grab your ideal audience’s attention.

Timeliness – This video was published at the end of 2024 when 2025 was on everybody’s mind, so dropping “(2025)” at the end of the title also grabs the audience’s attention.

Curiosity – “watch this” builds curiosity because it’s vague and open-ended.

How you can use this framework: Call out a group of people with a specific pain point and tell them to watch this. Bonus points if it’s near the turn of the year and you drop in the current or upcoming year.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • if you have less than $100K saved up, watch this (2025)
  • if you suck at playing guitar, watch this (2025)

Take That Haters

cutting a radiator apart

Title: They Said It Couldn’t Be Done… But I Built This DIY Fireplace Anyway!

Framework: They Said It Couldn’t Be Done… But I (Action) Anyway!

Hook score: +2063

Why this works:

Desire – This creator’s audience would love to build a DIY fireplace.

Curiosity – There’s a bit of contrast and conflict between “they said it couldn’t be done” and “I built this anyway” that makes you wonder how they did it.

How you can use this framework: Do something your audience would love to do, but people said couldn’t be done.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • They Said It Couldn’t Be Done… But I Got 100K Subs on a New Channel Anyway!
  • They Said It Couldn’t Be Done… But I Built A Video Game With AI Anyway!

Tech Truths

profiles of 4 men

Title: The REALITY of Tech Jobs in 2025

Framework: The REALITY of (Polarizing entity) in (Current or upcoming year)

Hook score: +8465

Why this works:

Timeliness – This video is about a trending topic, but they double down on that by dropping in the current year to let you know this is about what’s going on right now.

Negativity – Since tech jobs are struggling right now, this is a controversial topic that grabs lots of attention.

Curiosity – This title is vague and open-ended, which makes you want to know what’s going on with tech jobs.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about the reality of a struggling or controversial topic right now.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • The REALITY of Selling Your House in 2025
  • The REALITY of Cryptocurrency in 2025

Flop of the Week

life changing books

Title: i read 365 self help books, these are the best ones

Hook score: -97

Why this flopped: I think this is a great title, so why did it flop?

Well, it’s possible this creator’s audience doesn’t like the term “self help” books.

Or maybe “these are best ones” just isn’t spicy or specific enough.

Here are some alternate titles she could try:

“5 Underrated Books That Will Change Your Life”

“i read 365 books, these 5 will change your life”

“if you’re feeling stuck in life, read these books (2025)”

But maybe her audience just isn’t interested in a list of books that could change their life, or the thumbnail wasn’t quite compelling enough, or there was something wrong with the content that turned viewers off.

Sometimes good videos, titles and thumbnails miss the mark for some combination of reasons we don’t understand.

Alright, enough armchair titling, that wraps up this week’s Creator Hooks!
