Avoid These 3 YouTube Strategies At ALL Costs

I’ve asked some of the best creators on YouTube, “How do you write such great titles?”

And they’ve all said the same thing: “I just model what works.”

So this email will show you 5 videos worth modeling to help you write great titles and save time.

P.S. If you want to save more time and use a title generator that uses all the titles from this newsletter, check out Creator Hooks Pro.

Fat to Fit

fat and thin

Title: 5 ‘healthy’ habits that kept me fat

Framework: 5 ‘(Desirable)’ habits that kept me (Undesirable state)

Hook score: +596

Why this works:

List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about) and they add some curiosity.

Curiosity – It’s counterintuitive that “healthy” habits would keep her fat.

Negativity – This is about a pain point: staying fat.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about good habits that kept you in a bad state.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • 5 ‘confidence’ tips that kept me insecure
  • 5 ‘communication’ skills that ruined my marriage

3 Second Stop

Hook score: +999

Why this works:

Negativity – This uses fear to grab your attention.

Time Frame – The time frame of “in 3 Seconds” makes this feel more tangible and increases the desire to watch this video since it’s so short.

Why this works:

Negativity – This warning does a great job of grabbing attention.

List – Lists make videos feel more tangible (you know exactly what the video will be about) and they add some curiosity.

Title: The Quick Guide to Baseball Pitch Grips

Framework: The Quick Guide to (Entities)

Hook score: +1448

Why this works:

Desire – This creator’s audience is into baseball pitch grips.

Speed – People love speed and “Quick Guide” promises that.

The time frame of “in 2 minutes” in the thumbnail also adds to the speed and desire.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about the quick guide to something they’re into.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • The Quick Guide to Every Seattle Neighborhood

Flop of the Week

pass or fail dog

Title: How to Grade Your Dog’s Behavior: From F to A

Hook score: -87

Why this flopped: People love benchmarks and seeing how they compare, so why did this flop?

My guess is that people don’t want to grade their dog’s behavior, they want to skip that step and just have a better-behaved dog.

The thumbnail hints at that, but the title doesn’t.

It might’ve done better if it were, “How to Turn Your Dog’s Behavior From F to A”.

Or, to be even more direct, we could try, “How to Turn Your Crazy Dog Into a Calm, Obedient Dog”.

The lesson: write your title about the end goal the audience will get, not about the difficult journey they have to go on.
