Don’t Make Your Next YouTube Video Until You Read This

I’ve asked some of the best creators on YouTube, “How do you write such great titles?”

And they’ve all said the same thing: “I just model what works.”

So this email will show you 5 videos worth modeling to help you write great titles and save time.

P.S. If you want to save more time and use a title generator that uses all the titles from this newsletter, check out Creator Hooks Pro.

Explain Everything

Title: Every Major Audio Effect Explained in 8 Minutes!

Framework: Every Major (Entity) Explained in (Short Time Frame)!

Hook score: +760

Why this works:

Desire – This creator’s audience is into audio effects.

Time Frame – The time frame of 8 minutes does 3 things:

  1. Makes this video feel more tangible and interesting.
  2. Adds to the desire because it’s relatively short.
  3. Adds some curiosity because there’s contrast between “Every Major Audio Effect Explained” (which feels like a lot) and “in 8 Minutes” (which feels like a short amount of time).

Epic – The word “Every” makes this video feel epic and complete.

How you can use this framework: Explain every element of something in your niche in a short time frame.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • Every Thunderbolts Character Explained in 8 Minutes!
  • Every Squat Variation Explained in 8 Minutes!

The New King

huge snake

Title: We Found a Snake BIGGER Than Titanoboa!

Framework: We Found a (Entity) (Extreme comparative adjective) Than (Entity previously considered most extreme)!

Hook score: +781

Why this works:

Epic – People love epic things, and finding a snake bigger than what was previously thought to be the biggest definitely qualifies as extreme epic.

News – People love news and this feels like news.

Curiosity – This makes you wonder what the snake is and how big it is. Plus, it’s a little counterintuitive because this audience knows that there are no snakes bigger than Titanoboa.

How you can use this framework: Share the news that you found or did something more extreme than the previous record.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • We Found a Pepper SPICIER Than Carolina Reaper!
  • We Found a Mountain TALLER Than Everest!
  • Write better YouTube titles
  • Grow your channel
  • Save time

Canned Caution

sardines in a can

Title: Don’t Eat Canned Sardines Until You Watch This

Framework: Don’t (Activity) Until You Watch This

Hook score: +2426

Why this works:

Negativity – Warnings like this do a great job of grabbing the audience’s attention.

Curiosity – This is a major cliffhanger and makes you wonder what’s wrong with canned sardines.

Urgency – If you eat sardines, there’s some urgency here to watch this before you eat your next can.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience not to do something until they watch your video.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • Don’t Post on Instagram Until You Watch This
  • Don’t Move To North Carolina Until You Watch This

Magic Method

stack of books

Title: The Reading Method That Changed My Language Learning

Framework: The (Action) Method That Changed My (Desired skill)

Hook score: +2640

Why this works:

Desire – This creator’s audience would love to change their language learning.

Curiosity – This builds curiosity two ways:

  1. “Changed my Language Learning” is open-ended and makes you wonder what changed.
  2. It makes you wonder what this method is.

How you can use this framework: Tell your audience about the method that changed your journey.

Examples of this framework in action:

  • The Listening Method That Changed My Marriage
  • The Grip Technique That Changed My Driver Swing

World Changer

Leonardo da Vinci

Title: Leonardo da Vinci: The Renaissance Genius Who Changed the World

Framework: (Person): The (Specific description) Who (Epic action)

Hook score: +5226

Why this works:

Epic – Phrases like “Renaissance Genius” and “Changed the World” make this video feel exciting and epic.

How you can use this framework: Share the story of someone or an interview, and hype the person up by giving them an epic label.

Editor’s note: If the person you’re making the video about is not that well-known, I’d probably just model the second half of this title (like the second example below).

Examples of this framework in action:

  • Mahatma Gandhi: The Peaceful Revolutionary Who Changed the World
  • The Investing Genius Who Predicted Every Recession

Flop of the Week

big reptile enclosure

Title: My MASSIVE Reptile Enclosure has 23 Animals Preparing for a STORM!

Hook score: -74

Why this flopped: The #1 rule of writing YouTube titles: be clear, not clever.

This title violates that rule.

This video is about “the coolest jungle enclosure you’ve ever seen” (according to the intro).

Making the title about animals preparing for a storm is just trying to be too clever.

If it were me, I’d make the title about how this is the coolest reptile enclosure you’ve ever seen. And I’d probably use the word “reptile” and not “jungle,” because reptiles are the reason people watch this channel.

Now, you could ask if making a video about jungle enclosures was even a good idea in the first place, considering people watch this channel to learn about reptiles, but that’s a conversation for another email.

Alright, that wraps up this week’s Creator Hooks!
